If this blue wave manifests a lot of these fascists are going to experience very genuine breaks with reality. Not because their fascism is a function of mental illness, but because fascism has left them fundamentally unable to comprehend a world in which their actions have negative consequences.

Not just because they are liars who lie cynically to avoid accountability (though that is part of it) but because on a very profound level a lot of them genuinely believe that absent subterfuge, they are naturally destined for victory & success as an outgrowth of their supposed natural superiority.

And let's all be very clear that when fascists lose on any front--electorally, economically, militarily--their coping mechanism is ALWAYS to accuse a vulnerable group of sabotage. Failure is always the fault of an imagined traitor group within the nation state.

If they lose big (which seems likely), most of them will be quite literally psychologically incapable of integrating that reality into their worldview. We saw this with Trump in 2020, we saw this with his true believers on j6. We'll see it again.
