    As a kid, I looked up to Wesley Crusher. At 20, I found him very annoying. Now almost 40, he just seems like an exceptionally young intern. I struggle to understand why he annoyed me. I think, at 20, I was just far enough from childhood to be disgusted by it. It has nothing to do with Wesley himself

    I see the same pattern with language learning. I am willing to read children’s books to learn, but college students often aren’t. They’re big kids now. It’s liberating to not need to perform as if I dislike things made for children lest I be confused for a child.
