“your brain might need a different hormonal environment to work right” equally applies to transmasc people, but transmasc HRT isn’t as forgiving to just try, and mood etc. improvements on T are probably less informative

the cognitive changes many trans women experience with HRT do not really sound like they are all downstream of gender feelings and there is a plausible biological mechanism. Should you take medical advice from a philosopher? Probably not!!

people assume sex differentiation is stuff that makes the sexes different but it is also stuff that accommodates for other sex differences, like very different hormonal environments. other animals’ brains irreversibly differentiate in fetal/infant periods for different postpubertal environments

imo if you think you might be transfem but aren’t sure, or aren’t ready to transition, you should think about trying HRT, maybe lower dose, because your brain might need more estrogen to function
