We were at a bbq yesterday, met a couple for the first time. Two minutes in, and they are complaining that they don't have kids, so why should they pay school taxes? Bit my tongue to keep from yelling "DID YOU NOT READ THE SALES DOCUMENTS WHEN YOU BOUGHT THE DAMNED HOUSE?" among other things.

Yes exactly. The state doesn't actually need the money to get the money. Just the debt, (which can wait until you are literally dead) so they can bond against it. As long as you *eventually* pay its cool. But these tax revolt guys just want to steal the money for themselves bsky.app/profile/onbl...
Show PostThis is the easiest argument in the world to rebut: if you are concerned about this you can create a system by which seniors can defer paying property tax increases until they die or sell their home. The state, unlike you, is immortal and doesn't really care when you actually pay
