The neoliberal consensus was to have a precarious underclass without legal status that could be exploited by US businesses. The neofascist reaction has decimated these businesses. My hope is that people come to realize that the solution is not a return to the first, but rather comprehensive reform

When I worked at INS (pre-ICE) we did. It was called the Employer Sanctions Program. Once we hit a few big ag and construction companies, senators squawked and it was killed.

My parents built a house in Florida a couple decades ago and requested that the builder verify everybody’s papers. The builder basically said “do you guys want a house or not?”
