The Devils (1971): Ken Russell's director's cut proves glorious. The story centers on libertine Father Urbain Grandier of Loudon, the local nunnery & Cardinal Richelieu. Riveting with its gritty auteur folk horror, it depicts debauchery on a grand scale with much subtext. Rating: 9/10. #films

Show PostA friend of mine in high school wanted to see that, so we went on opening night (he had never seen the original, but liked Vince Vaughn from Swingers), and there were mostly younger folks there. I thought it was okay, and hoped it inspired a lot of the folks to go see/revisit the original.
