3/3 Well, Polish and Russian surnames can be similar. This probably saved many a policeman's life. Because, Stalin's time, it was "you kill them as ordered, or you join them against the wall!". Modern Russia officially declares the goal of restoring that Soviet glory.

2/3 That quota system made it impossible, for the police, to argue "no Poles live here, so we did not shoot any". At each end of the month the desperate policemen, if the killings were short of the number assigned, were combing the phone-books for people with Polish-sounding names.

❗️Ukraine's SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) stated that its strike on the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl damaged four RVS-2000 crude oil tanks, resulting in a spill, with two of the tanks catching fire. The agency also reported damage to the refinery's key ELOU-1 and AVT-3 processing units.
