One thing came up when we were revising our article. Scale bars in the pictures of new species: do we need them? Has anyone actually ever used one? To me, feels like the kind of thing that *ought* to be there. But I must admit, I've only ever put them into photos, not used them for anything.
Postu gösterI’ve been putting them in because I’m doing a family-wide review of local species so there are some of wildly different size next to each other. But it is a huge pain, especially since I’ve had to redo several to incorporate additions 🥲
Postu gösterKieran, it’s the first site I go to when confirming an ID. Not all spiders shown can be found in UK but very few UK spiders missing from the site.
Postu gösterInteresting method, thank you for sharing. Placing an appropriately-sized cover slip on top of the gel also works and you can gently roll it around to get exact positioning of the specimen.
Postu gösterYes! That's the challenge. Put a dab (or dollop, depending on size) of hand sanitizer in the center of the glass and place the specimen. Then carefully cover the specimen with EtOH. If you don't slosh it around too much, you'll have enough time to take the stack before the sanitizer dissolves. 👍
