There's a difference between that and a certain kind of corporate culture that pursues "efficiencies" with the express goal of eliminating people's jobs. That's what people are afraid of. And they're choosing to blame the technology for doing it to them. I get it. But I still think it's unhelpful.
Show PostIn all my years of doing this, I have never seen the person who's job got automated be upset about it. These folks are rarely just fired. They're usually given something else to do. And they're relieved because that was shitwork and they hated it.
Show PostA lot of times, jobs like this can be automated away. It doesn't even require AI. Just plain old regular code. But for whatever the reason the company can't do it. Maybe they don't know how, maybe they can't afford it, maybe they're not savvy enough to know it's possible. I've seen all of these.
Show PostThere are people who's whole job is to read data from a website or an email or a pdf, transfer it to a spreadsheet, then send that PDF to somebody else. It's pretty important to get that data from point A to point B. But there's no reason to have a human in the middle step if it's not necessary.
Show PostHere's a thought I'm having today. One of the reasons so many of us are ready to give our jobs away to AI is because we know they have always been bullshit jobs. For a long time now, we've been inventing jobs for people to do because we still require everybody to have a job to survive.
