I think people who are proud of their country will pay taxes, vote in elections, serve on juries and volunteer their time in their community if they can. Flags waving - particularly when it features another country’s flag is performative bullshit.

"We destroyed ourselves due to racism and greed." Yes, but... A disengaged citizenry has a lot do with it. When 1/3rd of the electorate stays home for every presidential election, they are handing their one power away. And they have been doing it for at least 150 years.
