A wonderful poem - especially the final line. My other favourite line is one about the girls' footsteps in the night-time street sounding like ponies... I met Douglas Dunn once & told him how I longed to steal that line. With typical generosity, he said I could. I haven't (yet) but still admire it!

There is a nice moment in the BBC 1993 doc about Larkin where Dunn is asked about PL's horrible politics, and he is just affectionately but briskly dismissive - "Philip was politically a blockhead". That wisdom, humour, and sanity enhanced his own work, I think.
