And democracy cannot survive sections of the population being driven out of public. You can't sacrifice us and keep your hands clean, no matter how shiny and comfortable the bathrooms you scrub them in are for you.

We are a tiny section of the population and in so many ways we are currently being *driven out of public life*. Bathroom bans are not the only way, but they are the one which announces to cis people that it is acceptable to harass and assault us in public in the most visible fashion.

You don't have to think about this if you aren't impacted by it, but it becomes way easier to just not go out in public. And so we don't. People sometimes comment that trans folks have a huge online presence - do you think that this is because we have thriving offline social lives?

The end result of this is not that you don't get to use your choice of bathroom - it's that you don't get to use the bathroom at all. Suddenly, you have to plan every trip with this in mind. Where are the toilets you know are safe? How long can you go without needing to use one?
