Netherlands here. We have a mandatory health insurance so everyone pays premiums. We pay approx. $150 pppm. Excess is $400 pppy. Our son got cancer last year. His treatment was $400k. We only paid parking and traveling costs. I happily paid the 50% taxes even before knowing we'd need it ourselves.
