the thing abt the queen's gambit (the show) is that if u show me a character who is just a prodigy who does a lot of drugs and imaginates her victory without showing or explaining the games then i dont actually know what shes doing to win or why she wins or loses outside of structural necessity

like im here, wondering if she's gonna beat borgov, and then realizing that im on episode 4 so narratively she must not win and i guess i just dont care. like oug he played moves, he defeated her free spirited american magic with bureaucratic soviet precision, thank u

am i just autistic? are people just kinda feeling the emotions of victory & defeat without needing to understand what victory or defeat actually entails? action movie where whenever they fight the camera goes black and turns back on when the hero triumphs

all movies about games should have kaiji ultimate survivor ass explanations of every tactical action in the game, there need not be a dichotomy between game logic and character/theme because games are themselves a medium for storytelling
