None of the other Streets of Rage games are close to 2's level either, fwiw I think I do actually like 4 a bit more than 2, the long arcade run still feels acceptable to me. Banger OST too, Deriviere put his whole pussy into it. The DLC characters did end up overtuned though.

Yeah. I can understand why it won't appeal to everyone, but I feel like it's not nearly as cynical as people are making it out to be. I think the ending was a perfect note to end on
