Conventional coverage and understanding of politics is incredibly shallow and mystifies very obvious incentives and trends. The message is that this moment is an aberration and we just need to weather it versus the fact that this was an easily predictable evolution and requires change.

It isn't hard to understand what happens when capital is concentrated in increasingly few hands at historic rates. It leads to corruption, authoritarianism, and order changes that go beyond the status quo illusion most live in. This isn't hard. It's quite obvious and quite easy.

It's telling that corporate and institutional media leans heavily into either "Trump is stupid" or "this is evil and unprecedented." Trump is stupid, this is evil, but it isn't unprecedented. All of it aims, consciously or not, to portray it as an aberration while ignoring the problem: capitalism.

One article after another about Trump allying with the authoritarian bloc of Putin and Xi. All focusing on ephemeral and illusory paranoia, never touching on very obvious corruption, self-dealing, and the influence of oligarchs actively attacking democracy and enjoying deals with all the actors.
