I don't use an escrow account for property taxes on my house. However, I understand why property taxes exist; I pay to maintain roads, infrastructure, government services, etc. that help to maintain the value of my house. Even after I pay it off, those benefits are needed.

I own my home free and clear because I’m old and bought my PRIOR house a long time ago. That makes me lucky, not smart. I am happy as can be to pay my property taxes, since they go to support our local (quite good) schools, which is (a) a public good; and (b) helpful for my property values.
