Normally I'd be bothered by the CGI but with being primed by that description it didn't bother me at all. I thought it was a really charming aesthetic, and I was so impressed by how much *camera work* there is versus confusingly hideous "you had a gazillion dollars, what the fuck" movies like Shrek.

The friend who showed it to me described it as the filmmakers were aiming for emulating/evoking a Rankin Bass claymation look as a way to mitigate their budget limitations, and honestly I think they achieved that for the most part. And the camera work was unexpectedly great.
