Yeah. it's mostly something I call out because of the framing of modern war crimes or what have you as the 'soft idealists who won't let us make the hard, practical decisions' when most of the time it is 'you are deciding on things that make you feel tough, not actual practical goals'. (1/2)

Not a defense, but a practical concern: if you signal that you are okay with bombing civilian targets, the other side is far less likely to take the moral high ground about your civilian targets.
