One thing @jburnmurdoch.ft.com doesn't consider, and it could be a cause, consequence or both, is declining taste for, & consumption of, alcohol. If you don't want to drink you are less likely to put yourself in situations where there is social pressure to or where you need it to overcome inhibition

Tbf, it wasn't Naga or Charlie who said it, it was a sofa guest. They were talking about all sorts of repairing and not throwing away clothes at the first sign of a tear. One guest showed a fridge draw he's fixed with melty staples which was pretty good.
