2 wks after the Gov’s grant cancellation, Columbia halted my faculty onboarding due to award termination & stated lack of funds. Unemployed, I was ~18 months from a salary if I waited for the fall academic cycle. 4/

On the cusp of exiting, I applied for off-cycle jobs in Europe. Interviews led to a June offer for a tenured associate professor job at the University of Copenhagen. I exhaled. 5/
