A lot of the malaise in western societies gets attributed to billionaires, government, etc., but a lot of everyday people never stop to consider our own complicity in a culture that demands social cohesion without wanting to lift a finger to contribute to any of it.

Yeah, it's quite bad. COPE and the Vancouver Greens have 9 out of 11 votes. This is my take on the parties. Possible they'll have to moderate a bit now that they're in power (and they need/want money from new housing to accomplish things) but maybe that's copium.

State DOTs control most of the deadliest city streets (including this one in Memphis), but they won’t fix them bc they don’t want to constrain speed or vehicle throughput. The funding issue is bogus IMO. State DOTs always find $$ for favored roadway expansions. Urban safety just isn’t a priority.
