So sad to see that Sam Neill died. I sat next to him on a plane from NZ to Sydney. He was so kind, let me hang in the airport lounge w him (!), told me about his animals, and gave recs on what to do in Sydney and drew me a little map of how to get to Bondi. And was so gracious to fans who said hi.

I have friends here in Canada who have embargoed American politics. It enrages them too much. I can’t do that. I track a LOT, just don’t comment on everything (recommended!), but the rage is real. A lot of people who should have known better backed Platner — and attacked those raising questions.

I don’t normally love films or series spun from books I’ve admired, but Small Things Like These, from Claire Keegan’s short, moving novel, is extremely well done. Beautifully acted (and directed). And not just by Cillian Murphy in the lead role, but right through.

My father, Dr Sam Kay, died on this day in 1990, far too young. Hit by a car while walking the dog. I am endlessly grateful that he was my dad. Gifts without measure. Kindness, intelligence, wit, engagement with the world. A role model for dealing with people — including, always, his patients.
