I am confident many, even a majority of, Americans hate this about their nation’s spending and cultural priorities. I’m sure they’d like to stop being a warmongering country. The trouble is, it’s like Eisenhower suggested. If you make the military your business, your economy becomes tied to wars.

I literally live in a city with a military base and I almost never encounter it in the wild. The recruitment office downtown is so understated, it’s crazy. Maybe we need more military, but I doubt it will ever be our “culture”. It’s just wild how omnipresent it is in the USA.

But you speak out about an event like whatever the fuck game it was where they came rapelling down, and someone will go “pfft, as if we’re the only country that does military pomp.” No. China does it. North Korea does. Russia. Nazi Germany did. Totally normal company for the USA to be in.
