Excellent piece DA. And speaking of ‘young men of fighting age’ behaving badly I’d draw your attention to a long piece in the 15 June New Yorker on the Tates. It’s grim reading that on occasion made me recoil with horror.

I think I heard that phrase first during the surge of refugees fleeing Syria in 2011, and then it was used more to insult people and accuse the men of being cowards or fleeing defeated extremists, and it has since taken on ever darker meanings
