That problem isn’t persuading the LIRR or MN to buy trains with steps. Honestly, the way forward is to just not stop if a platform isn’t reachable and run frequently enough that backriding isn’t a huge deal. They also have to actually communicate with passengers.

The Multilevel was an understandable result of crashworthiness rules that have been superseded, a slot crunch that is going to be relieved, and low platforms which there are enough cars to serve while they get replaced. It’s too pricey and heavy to keep being the template.
