This headline is also a reflection of the deep racism surrounding the WWII mythology. How many of our non-white brothers and sisters from across the Commonwealth fought alongside British soldiers under the same flag?

My parents were the same. Dad escaped from Poland during the war and fought across Europe. Mum lost her first husband, an RAF navigator, at nineteen and pregnant with my brother. She married Dad after the war. They despised fascism and racism and would be horrified about what is happening today.

And since the first Gulf War was televised, the media and politics are now addicted to war porn and often use the military as the 1st solution for problems that should be fixed by other means. As we are now so far from the consequences of our actions, we should bring in some cost.
