but right below it is "that understanding has very little to do with what tools they use" which is completely fucking false with LLMs; they allow to publish stuff without having the slightest clue what is done (which does not mean they can't be used with understanding)

💯 i find that LLMs help with understanding code because they are so good at interrogating and testing it. reviewing code is still useful because LLMs do sometimes make sub-optimal design decisions. otoh, the scale of those made by people in the legacy software i manage is on a whole other level…
