Mark, I'm truly grateful for your clear & brave exposition of these issues. I think the outlook for a broad, investigator(curiosity)-driven science funded publicly in the US is extremely bleak & it's shocking how many colleagues (even at clearly beleaguered Harvard) have their heads in the sand.

Or as I told someone at NBC yesterday "it's not 'a rogue AI', it's sloppy software." I won't even use "an AI" to refer to a program (or robot,) these people are using the term to refer to a bunch of cloned threads.
