On Question Time last night, I talked about the extractive economic model that has left Wales - and many other nations - impoverished *because they were so rich in resources*. You can see the problem simply by looking at the map: the infrastructure looks like a drainage system.

The piece asked a question nobody ended up having to answer, which might be the most 2026 Drumcree outcome going: the state answered it for everyone before either side had to show its hand. Rossnowlagh's the right comparison, and it's a shame nobody reached for it on either side of the road.

No. 5 of my column ‘Our Own Ground’ asked whether either side would actually accept a Court of Appeal ruling it disliked. Neither had to answer. The Secretary of State decided for everyone before the question came due. That's the whole dispute, in a sentence.
