We need to be pursuing a societal structure that helps us be resilient to upheavals and mass displacements. I'm not getting into the UBI debate, because it's a can of worms. But it is a very real example of how the conversation needs to change. We can't ban our way out of jobs disappearing.

i went to law school, passed the bar, never practiced but spent years in academia and now legal tech.... the number of people who were ON MY ASS if I even hinted that may be tangentially related to being a lawyer...

Like, are these guys often useful idiots for fascists? Sure, of course. But are they intentionally pursuing being tools of the authoritarians? Most of the time, usually not. Why does that distinction matter? Because 50k+ people who voted for Trump voted for Zohran just a few months later.
