In each of those two cases, the joke is on the character who is in blackface, and there isn't even a question in either case of authorial intent - it's extremely clear.

This is the point I feel strongest about. We've (society) managed to pick the stupidest way of dealing with this stuff, in which excellent blackface jokes in both The Office and 30 Rock are now memory-holed because American TV execs are unable to distinguish between "joke" and "endorsement".
