I agree. Milder than most places (I lived in Montreal too) but the combination of climate, culture and nature is incomparable in Vancouver.

My kids' line (Native American/French) owned panis (slaves). One record (baptism) I came across showed how property was valued over people. In Michigan, a Scottish man had taken a 3 year old French girl from her parents to cover their unpaid debt. He sold her to an First Nations man in Montreal.
