    The Democratic Party could pick a much, much worse majority leader than Van Hollen, and I can't think of very many who'd be better choices. I would throw behind him in a heartbeat if he wanted the job.

    I yell at him much, MUCH less often than I yell at my junior Senator, Angela Alsobrooks (who has been a giant-ass disappointment and whom I will be vigorously attempting to primary in 2030). It is very weird having a Senator who does not need to be regularly yelled at.

    When he came up for re-election in 2022, I was actually voting *for him* instead of voting *against* the other guy, because boy did my impression of him turn out to be wrong. I will cheerfully and happily vote to send him back to Congress for as long as he wants to be there.

    I voted for Edwards in the primary and was sad she lost, but was prepared to accept "a little too uncritical of the military-industrial complex but at least remembers other federal employees exist and seems to view taking care of people as not-anathema", and, well, the other option was worse.

    Van Hollen is my Senator. In 2016, I thought (based on what little I noticed of him as a not-my-district House member) we were electing someone who cared about education and taking care of federal employees, and he had a good record on disability rights, so okay, I can deal.
