Sometimes, you don't "need" it, but benefit from it significantly. Sometimes, you don't "need" it physically, but choose it for legal or social reasons. Sometimes, you DO need it, but it's physically not an option. None of these put you in a privileged position.

Not to get back on my soap box, but this is part of why it chafes my ass so much that there are so many folks who want to draw a line between people who "need" medical transition and people who do not. There is a vast gray area there and nothing good comes from ignoring it.

I'm social transition only, so this seems like an easy question to answer, but if there was a type of HRT that could give me the kind of body I long for, maybe I'd feel differently 🤷

"there's no ethical consumption under capitalism" really serves more as an excusatory framework for some people than it does as an explanatory framework for the limitations of personal choice.
