We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters. They're really expensive and there are good reasons you have to have a pilot license and work with air traffic control to fly them. Putting jets on a sedan is not going to result in a better vehicle or transportation experience in any way.

This is I think something that all fiction is going to do, and is not in an of itself *bad*. I don't know if it is worse in sci-fi or just I have a different relationship with that genre or what. Perhaps the nature of the stories means these kinds of things slip past a readers mental defenses more.

The recent example to me is the Three Body Problem, which (in addition to some views on humanity that I think are pretty authoritarian), makes a claim about the nature of life in the Universe and how humanity should view aliens which I see many people now repeating uncritically.

A thing I've seen in science fiction is that, while they make claims about physics that I think most readers would say they understand are wrong, they also assert things about humanity and the Universe as a whole that readers take as true in ways that I think become really damaging.
