@pvrkr.bsky.socialSeattle very clearly wants rail expansion. Sound Transit will alienate its core supporters and create massive political problems for itself if it proceeds with the Somers plan. It is time for wiser heads to prevail. We need city, county, and state leaders to intervene and stop ST from gutting ST3.
Show PostST3 might not have passed without a strong Yes vote in the Ballard area. The 36th District has big voting power. GOP candidate Rob McKenna memorably blamed his 2012 defeat in the governor's race to Jay Inslee on massive Dem turnout in the 36th District.
Show PostSound Transit and its defenders claim that nothing is amiss, Ballard is still going to get rail even if the agency abandons its commitment to build it on a specific timeline, that getting to 100% design is good enough. Ballard residents, who overwhelmingly voted yes on ST3, aren't buying it.
Show PostMembers of the public are demanding to know why Sound Transit is looking to cut back rail lines before seeking new revenues or cost savings. Several have pointed out how appalling it is that ST's construction costs are so much higher than global standards. Others want an RFI to study automation.
Show PostThe 36th legislative delegation is, to put it mildly, not happy with Sound Transit. These are key legislators: Sen. Noel Frame, Vice-Chair of Ways and Means. Rep. Julia Reed, Vice-Chair of Transportation. They're suggesting they will no longer fight for ST in Olympia if ST cuts off Ballard.
