I'm not the first person to say this, but the bike industry in the U.S. is really missing a huge opportunity by not aggressively defending and promoting e-bikes. I think this is largely the result of it being an industry built on recreational cycling and not transit riding.

The “breadbasket” remark is quite literal. Prior to the 1880s the main crop in northern Santa Clara County was wheat.
Show PostMy favorite Alviso fact is that there was once a speculative land scheme there called “New Chicago.” Even in the 1890s most of the lots were underwater. Part of it was actually built, which is why there is a Michigan Avenue and a Wabash Street there today. calisphere.org/item/07cab10...

This is why conservation as it is currently practiced needs a paradigm shift. We need to look at facilitating emergence, evolution and migration rather than protecting as per historical baselines.
