From the outside, it appears he's running well behind the only other Iowa Dem in a statewide race. And a big Iowa LGTBQ advocacy org recently clarified this isn't a play for him, he seems to genuinely believe it.

By the way, this whole "Black voters are struggling with Abdul El-Sayed" is purely a creation of elite discourse. The latest poll has Abdul up 88-7 among Black voters. Kamala Harris got 86% of the Black vote in Michigan in 2024.
