What's especially infuriating is that everything has been going great with the LAX upgrades over the past two decades. Beautiful international terminal. A second Tom Bradley. A gorgeous Delta Terminal. An awesome Economy parking lot. But they ran ass-first into this stupid people-mover thing... ugh

I haven't particularly followed the LAX people mover or know any details of the situation. But the total disregard for the public interest shown here—not just spinning, but outright gaslighting—is like little I've seen in an ostensible democracy. It's a manual for how to lose public trust.

The LAX people mover fiasco is an extreme example of the problem of inadequate state capacity that plagues projects up and down the state. When an agency with no transit experience has to manage a complex project and outsources everything to consultants, things go wrong and delays are hard to avoid.
