It's not even hypothetical - after the Munich Putsch the German state was in a position to destroy Nazism if it wanted to. They had the legal architecture and public legitimacy to ban the party for good and put its leaders behind bars for life. Instead they basically let them off.

People raise stuff like this, and the answer is actually quite simple: don't let the Nazis in. Stamp that shit out immediately, regardless of the electoral system. Weimar Germany's problem was having too many slightly-less-far-right parties who just didn't want to do that.

Pretty much. If you're having trouble putting together a democratic government under a PR system, then it's most likely because a sizable enough share of voters to be a problem simply don't actually want one.

Parliamentary PR is fine. If you're having difficulties forming a democratic government under it, you were probably going to have similar problems sooner or later under FPTP.
