Today's conference before Judge Reyes is a sobering reminder to hug your law license every day, and always tell it how much you love and appreciate it. It can all be taken from you in an instant

On a less funny note, this post reminds me of a conference I had with an (older) arbitrator earlier this week, where he let the sides know he was retiring because his wife had passed away and gave us an impromptu and heartfelt speech about how much of the richness of life was lost when she died

Basically, a special master would be a specially appointed judicial officer whose role would be to act as a judge for just this one fact intensive issue, take evidence and issue a ruling. Not only is it real - an expensive proctology - but Reyes is smartly insulating any findings from a bias claim
