"Oh gee we had nothing to do with it what a funny coincidence" was never a serious denial, it was very obviously with a wink and a nudge because it's the humor of the situation that was the weapon, not because people are actually too stupid to mark their ballot correctly.

It was about baiting Sullivan into petulant rage, and now Trump DOJ doing all this only doubles down on that.
