In Mexican Spanish the vulgar slang word chingar (“to fuck”) is sometimes substituted with ¡chihuahua! (in much the same way “fuck” can be substituted with “fudge” or “fiddlesticks” in English).

In English “shit” can be swapped for inoffensive alternatives like “sugar” or “shiitake mushrooms”. My favourite in German is to swap Scheiße (“shit”) for Scheibenkleister, which is an adhesive glue for window panels (so you’re essentially exclaiming “pane paste!” or “panel putty!”).

Today, I got interviewed for an Ethics In Engineering class. the topic they chose was a new LINAC technique. Had an hour, barely touched technology & controls. Spent the most of the time talking about ALARA, animal vs. human trials, informed consent and ethical design starting in the architecture.
