This began with the "house as a wealth builder" myth foisted on people to get them to buy homes (read 'take out mortgages'), by the banking consortium, begun in the 1990's & accelerated in the 2000's, causing the market crash. Now, the protection of property values is paramount.
Show PostOh, but he wouldn't like *that*, would he. And there's the actual problem. Nobody wants low-cost housing affecting their property values/neighborhood. So NIMBY's have made it impossible to build anything but McMansions...& even that takes years + $250k JUST FOR A BUILD PERMIT.
