Well and for Foucault, it's about caring for the prince's "soul" so he can care for the people. So it's also political. But yes, it probably does slot into the part of our brains that need some kind of faith, even if it's secular and philosophical.

I think it's care we're after (those of us who do not find morality in faith). At least for me, it's care. Care for ourselves, care for others. I take this from Foucault, Ahmed, Butler, so it's philosophical for me rather than faith based.
