@heritage-meisie.bsky.socialAny confusion about Mahmood’s “reforms” to settlement for long-term residents derives from a fundamental dishonesty over why she’s doing them. She can’t tell the truth - that they’re to gain votes from racists - so they have to be dressed up in economic arguments which fall apart under any scrutiny
Show PostThere are supposed to be transitional pathways for everyone already here in the UK, at least that is what they said when they first floated the changes. I really hope you are able to stay in the UK & won’t be forced to leave.
Show PostI’d hope you’ll still be ok, you’re so close! I won’t finally qualify until June 2028, there’s no chance of transitional protections for me, but you’re only two months away! Good thoughts for you (and us all…)
Show PostUnfortunately that we are. I’m so sorry that you are also going through this. When would you have qualified for ILR if they weren’t changing the rules? I would have qualified in Jan 2027. Now? Who knows.
Show PostI don't want anyone to have to wait more than 5 years to settle! 5 years is a long time. 10 years is a *very* long time. In 10 years I got a PhD, changed city 3 times, got married, worked several jobs, became British. A lot happens in 10 years! Too long to keep people in a precarious state.
