Bringing Caltrain downtown is important, but this project is currently planned to blow tens of millions of dollars rebuilding the polluting, dangerous stub end of the 280 freeway. We shouldn't let SFCTA hide that cost as part of a "transit" project and treat it as not up for debate. Tear 280 down!

Interesting discussion of messaging strategy around homelessness in Seattle. I will say I've found (here in SF) trying to get too clever and downplay the core, values-based message—sweeps are cruel and useless, invest in housing—can backfire.

And I get it: Dems could not convince the public otherwise if they wanted to, for the simple reason that the public does not hear what they say. Their words reach the public, if at all, through several layers of hostile mediation. They are outmatched in the persuasion fight. So they've given up.

I'm always down with criticism of Prop 13, but to me, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (which would not exist without massive subsidy from the US govt!) is a closer analog to rent control for homeowners.
