for me to “go stealth”, I would have to boymode. there are a million reasons why that’s not happening, and most of them amount to “I would end up hurting my communities and loves ones”. and I am far from the only trans person this would be true of.

It's been slowly dawning on me over the past couple months that I think a lot of people have never met an actual trans person and can't comprehend that it's an innate part of our identities and not equivalent to "I know it's weird, but I prefer strawberry ice cream to chocolate or vanilla."

I've started seeing cis people telling trans people that "you can just go stealth" in response to our concerns about Democratic transphobia, and even if that were true for all of us - and for many of us, it's not - that is honestly an incredibly gross thing to say. We shouldn't have to.
