A detail that gets forgotten is one of the backers appears to have been Surovikin who was one of the actually competent Russian generals and he was demoted in early 2023 by Gerasimov and he was "arrested" immediately after Prigozhin turned around

I haven't seen much serious discussion of this but there's a lot of circumstantial evidence that points to Prigozhin's Wild Ride being the Russo-Ukrainian war's version of the July 20th plot
